For now, there are three ways to get involved:

  • Attend a Community Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting. The CAC is a group of community members appointed by MPRB commissioners, Minneapolis city council members and neighborhood organizations to guide the North Service Area Master Plan. Meetings are open to the public. View the CAC Roster [PDF]
  • Enter your email to receive updates about meetings, events and more.
  • Call or send an e-mail to the project manager, Adam Arvidson, if you have initial ideas, want to discuss the project, or would like to request the project team come to your organization’s meeting.
  • You can leave comments about the project and any northside neighborhood park at this online survey.

Background

A Service Area Master Plan is a process that engages the community to:

  • Take a complete look at all outdoor park assets: fields, playgrounds, paths, etc. (Recreation center buildings are not included in this Master Plan. They are part of RecQuest.)
  • Create improvement plans for each neighborhood park
  • Guide decisions on capital improvements, how to spend NPP20 funding, land acquisition, and development of new parks.
  • Set a vision for operations, management, and improvements
  • Set priorities and estimate budgets

The North Service Area Master Plan (NSAMP) will include all neighborhood parks north of I-394 and west of the Mississippi River. It does not include Regional Parks (Theodore Wirth, Victory Parkway, North Mississippi, and Above the Falls/RiverFirst) because these parks are required by the Metropolitan Council to have their own master plans. The project WILL include the Shingle Creek Regional Trail corridor and the Wirth Parkway corridor between Golden Valley Road and Lowry Avenue. These regional facilities do not have current master plans, so we will plan them along with the north side neighborhood parks.  In all, 34 park properties are included in the NSAMP project.  Click here for a map [PDF].
