Construction is about 22 percent complete on the major project to expand and transform facilities at North Commons Park, creating a Northside hub for arts, recreation, athletics and community activities. The project includes a new waterpark, three-gym fieldhouse, lobby, fitness center and renovated community center.
Updates
- Footings and foundations for the new building’s west wing are nearly 100% complete. Part of this work involves coordination with utility contractors to install “sleeves” through the foundation to accommodate gas, electricity and water lines.
- The installation of all below-grade infrastructure for the new building is nearing 100% completion.
What’s Next
- The steel structure for the fieldhouse roof will be delivered and installed this month. This will allow work to continue inside the fully enclosed fieldhouse through winter.
- Precast panels for the west wing will be delivered and installed before the end of the month.
Things to Note
- Thanks to a Hennepin County Sidewalk Grant, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board can reconstruct the sidewalk on the north side of the park along Golden Valley Road. The improved sidewalk will accommodate both pedestrians and bicycles, allowing for additional parking on Golden Valley Road, and include a boulevard with tree plantings.
- North Commons Community Center is open!

- Regular school-year hours are Monday-Friday 3-8 pm, Saturday 12-5 pm (closed Sunday).
