A view of the park’s main playground currently under construction.
The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is pleased to announce that construction of improvements at Riverside Park is nearly complete.
Final work is underway on the park’s main playground and adjacent nature play area, with completion expected later in November. At that time, fencing will be removed and the park will re-open to the public.
Improvements already completed
- new wading pool (to open next spring)
- new picnic shelter
- new hammock hangout in “the clearing” (near the steps down to Annie Young Meadow on the riverfront)
- new sidewalks – picnic tables – benches – lighting
- removal of invasive plants along the bluff
- new plantings, including trees, rain gardens, prairie plantings and other landscaped areas
Spring 2026 grand opening
MPRB will host an event next spring to celebrate these park improvements. We’ll share details once they’re confirmed!
Thanks for your support while MPRB works to improve Minneapolis parks.
