After last year’s delay, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is pleased to announce that construction of planned improvements at Folwell Park begins next month.
Some preparatory work will begin in the park the week of April 21, with construction planned to start in early May and continued through late fall this year. Some final work will take place in spring 2026.
As indicated in the image above, the improvements include:
- New all-wheel park with bowl features and street skating area
- Community gathering area
- Stormwater management areas
- Native plantings
- New and reconstructed paths
- Added lighting
During construction
- Please keep out of fenced areas for your own and others’ safety.
- The wading pool and adjacent restroom will not be open during the 2025 swim season
- Restrooms available at Folwell Recreation Center during building hours

About the project
The current project at Folwell Park builds on a range of improvements added to the park since 2017, including:
- New playground south of recreation center
- Tennis courts renovated
- Path connecting the courts and playground
- Lighting added for west athletic field
- Updates and replacements to the recreation center kitchens, craft rooms, restrooms, roof
- Accessibility improvements for the parking lot, sidewalk leading to the recreation center, and center entry
