Completed court renovations: Cavell Park – Kenny Park – Hall Park – Holmes Park – Logan Park – Lyndale Farmstead Park – Pearl Park – Van Cleve Park – Windom Northeast Park
Renovations completed by contractors included sealing cracks and applying color coating and new striping to improve current conditions and extend the overall life of the court surface. Pickleball striping was added at some locations.

Renovations in process (courts open for use): Bryant Square Park – Elliot Park – Fuller Park
Asphalt, curbing, asphalt and hoops are complete, with site clean-up and seeding occurring this week. Color coating and line striping will occur in the spring, due to the cure time required.

This fall, the Asset Management department is renovating multiple basketball and tennis courts in neighborhood parks with NPP20 rehabilitation funds. The project includes sealing cracks and applying color coating and new striping to improve current conditions and extend the overall life of court surfaces.

Renovations at 11 locations include:

• Basketball court renovations at Hall, Holmes and Van Cleve parks
• Basketball and tennis court renovations at Cavell, Kenny, Logan, Lyndale Farmstead and Pearl parks.

Note: The project includes court renovations at Windom Park Northeast and Beard’s Plaisance, with other funding sources.

Work continues for a third year to replace deteriorated concrete sidewalk segments in neighborhood parks. As in previous years, the locations listed below were prioritized based on the “fair” or “poor” condition of their sidewalks, determined as part of a 2017 assessment of pavement conditions in all Minneapolis neighborhood parks.

As with the work completed earlier, this project focuses on concrete sidewalks only (not asphalt paths or sport courts), in part because it is contracted in coordination with similar work on properties owned by the City of Minneapolis. Work is expected to begin this month and continue as long as weather allows.

Locations slated for 2019 sidewalk replacements

North Minneapolis: Bethune and Willard parks, Humboldt and Newton triangles.

Northeast/Southeast: Hi-View, Marshall Terrace, Waite and Xcel Field parks

South Minneapolis: Bossen Field, Central Gym and McRae parks

Southwest Minneapolis: Bryant Square, Mueller and Washburn Fair Oaks parks and Waveland Triangle

This project is funded by the 20-Year Neighborhood Park Plan (NPP20), a long-term initiative that reverses years of under-funding in neighborhood parks.

Plans are underway to expand in 2018 the number of neighborhood parks where deteriorated concrete sidewalk segments will be replaced. Replacements took place for perimeter sidewalks at seven parks in 2017 (see below); this year replacements could occur in up to 51 parks, listed below. In addition, sidewalk replacements in 2018 will take place throughout a park, not just perimeter sidewalks. Note: this project focuses exclusively on concrete sidewalks; it does not include asphalt paths and sport courts.
Work may begin as early as late April or early May, and is expected to continue throughout the season, as long as weather allows.

Project dates for each park will be announced as they are determined; coordination among parks and recreation departments is occurring so that this work doesn’t interfere with scheduled events, activities, park facility rentals or other park improvement projects.
