Parque Monarca chosen as name for park along Midtown Greenway

On Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2025, Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) Commissioners chose “Parque Monarca” as the name for the previously unnamed neighborhood park at 2828 11th Ave S.

Parque Monarca is located along the Midtown Greenway Regional Trail in the Midtown Phillips neighborhood. The site previously housed Cepro grain elevators, so the temporary name “Cepro Site” has been used since Hennepin County acquired the land in 2000 to support Midtown Greenway development. Hennepin County transferred the land to the MPRB in 2019 and it became an official neighborhood park.

A variety of placemaking and landscaping projects have been completed since 2011, including a 2022 project that added a community garden and other park amenities.

The MPRB held two public hearings about the name change, on May 22, 2024, and Oct. 9, 2025. A resolution to change the name (Resolution 2025-264) was approved by the MPRB Commissioners on Dec. 10, 2025.

The MPRB website and MPRB registration software have been updated with the new name. New signs that read “Parque Monarca” will be installed at the park next spring.
