Construction update for new south Minneapolis neighborhood park next to Midtown Greenway

Park improvements include a new stage, paths, accessible seating area, bike parking and drinking fountain

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is building a series of upgrades for a new neighborhood park next to the Midtown Greenway.

The 1.65-acre park at 2828 11th Ave. S was officially transferred to the MPRB from Hennepin County in 2019. This year MPRB staff built a new park sign, raised community garden beds and a new drinking fountain with a hose hookup.

Construction on more site improvements is underway. This includes a new stage, paths, accessible seating area and bike parking. These improvements are being funded by Hennepin County as part of the land transfer to the MPRB. A previously planned stage backdrop will be constructed in a future phase of park improvements (more funding for the site is allocated in 2027).

Construction is expected to wrap up for the season in December. Paving work will be completed next spring.

Site History

The site previously housed Cepro grain elevators, so the temporary placeholder name “Cepro Site Park” is being used before an official name is chosen. Hennepin County acquired the land in 2000 to support Midtown Greenway development. The grain elevators were demolished in 2004, greenway connections constructed in 2007 and a variety of placemaking and landscaping projects have been completed since 2011.
