Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board opens public comment period for draft Naming Policy

Today, Monday, September 15, 2025, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) published a draft Naming Policy for a 45-day public comment period ending Oct. 30, 2025 at 4:30 pm.

The draft MPRB Naming Policy incorporates interest in naming for donations, removing names that no longer meet the mission and values of the MPRB, equity in naming, and identification and approval of Indigenous names for parks or park assets into the current policy.

Background

Over the last several years, MPRB has considered possible updates to the Naming Policy that would address interest in naming for donations, names that no longer meet the mission and values of the MPRB, equity in naming, and identification and approval of indigenous names for parks or park assets. The draft policy will allow community members to weigh in on the proposed language and provide feedback into this important aspect of Minneapolis parks.
