Contractors working with the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board (MPRB) begin work next week on a major woodland restoration project on about 18 acres in the northeast part of Cedar Lake Park.
The goal of the project is to establish healthy native plant communities by removing significant amounts of invasive trees and shrubs, primarily buckthorn, along with follow-up seeding, maintenance and invasive species control activities. This work will take place over several years.

Public Impacts
People should be aware that this is a large-scale project and it will change this part of the park dramatically – especially during the initial phase of buckthorn removal. Contractors will use forestry mowers, hand crews and other machinery during the initial removal phase to clear invasive plants.
The project area may appear unsightly at times; there will also be periods when crews are not on site so it may seem as if work has paused. Please remember, this is a multiyear project and much of the work can only occur at certain times of the year.
Signage in the park will indicate where work is taking place. For everyone’s safety, keep out of any fenced areas and areas where crews and machinery are working.
MPRB appreciates everyone’s patience and support during this major land restoration project.
Watch for updates as the work progresses. The results will be worth it!
