Recreation Centers and Kroening Nature Center

Twenty-eight recreation centers throughout Minneapolis are air conditioned, free and open to the public on Friday, with some Saturday and Sunday hours. Most have gymnasiums, computer labs and free activities.

Carl W. Kroening Nature Center, in North Mississippi Regional Park, is air conditioned and open on Friday, 9 am to 4:30pm and Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm. It has a permanent “Nature in the City” exhibition and other activities.

The following air-conditioned recreation centers are open Friday, September 1 from Noon to 6 pm. Locations with Saturday or Sunday hours are also noted. All locations are closed on Monday, September 4.

Note: Pearl Recreation Center is not air-conditioned, but is open Friday and Sunday, Noon to 6 pm. If you plan on visiting, call the center first to make sure it has not closed due to federal guidelines for excessive heat in buildings.
