The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is adjusting facility hours and programming due to the incoming winter storm.

Recreation Centers and Park Buildings

Wednesday, February 22: All recreation centers will be open 9 am-5 pm. Summer youth program registration opens at 12 pm on Wednesday, so staff will be available in buildings or by telephone to assist as needed.

Indoor programs scheduled at recreation centers between 9 am and 5 pm are on, except Rec Plus, see below. Evening activities and sports leagues are cancelled.

All other buildings, including MPRB Headquarters, Kroening Nature Center, and Phillips Aquatics Center will open and close at their regular time or no later than 5 pm.

Thursday, February 23: Closed, all activities cancelled.

Friday, February 24: To be determined. A decision will be made Thursday.

Rec Plus

All Rec Plus school-age childcare programs will be closed Wednesday, February 22, Thursday, February 23 and Friday, February 24. This aligns with Minneapolis Public Schools move to e-leaning for all three days.

Ice Arenas

Presently Parade Ice Garden and Northeast Ice Area will remain open for scheduled ice time. Staff will continue to monitor weather over the next 48 hours and alert groups if there are any closures.

Snow Removal

After each snowfall of at least two inches (accumulated), MPRB staff clear snow from 107 acres of parking lots and 140 miles of sidewalks, paths and regional trails.

MPRB staff try to have snow removed throughout the park system within 24 hours after the snowfall ends. It may take 2-4 passes to fully clear paths, especially during extended or extreme snow events, which can cause delays. Staff will return as needed to clear blockages at intersections and parking lot entrances that result from snow-clearing on streets and adjacent properties.

Priority Tiers

Snow clearing priorities are organized into three tiers:

Tier A

School/park locations, Rec Plus school-age childcare parking lots and entrances, other park parking lots, regional trails

Tier B

All park perimeter sidewalks and interior paths

Tier C

Ice rinks. Rinks will not be cleared for this snowfall event, they are closed for the season.

Trail Plowing Map

A live trail plowing map is available online here: Trail Plowing Status Map. The map tracks where park trails and sidewalks have been cleared during snowfall events and updates every three minutes.

Snow Removal Request or Concern

Park users can submit a snow removal request or report a concern here: Snow Event Request Form. You can also call MPRB Customer Service at 612-230-6400 between 8 am and 4:30 pm, Monday-Friday.

Parkway Snow Clearing

Snow clearing on parkways is done by the City of Minneapolis. Visit the City of Minneapolis Snow Season page for parking rules, routes for city streets and parkways, and other useful info.
