Neighborhood Camp Counselor
Role Summary: The Minneapolis Parks will be offering a variety of summer full-day camps at various parks throughout the city. We are looking for qualified Day Camp staff for this summer. It is an excellent opportunity for people who enjoy working with youth and being outdoors during the summer months.
Compensation:
- $15.57 – $23.00/hour
- This position is eligible for sick and safe leave in accordance with the Minneapolis Sick and Safe Time Ordinance
- This position is not eligible for other benefits
Hours:
- 32 – 40 hours/week
- Accepting applications now, hiring on a rolling basis
- Camp training starts June 17th, with specialty trainings required for some positions the week prior
- Camp season runs June 25th – August 16th. Programs run Tue-Fri 10AM-5PM
- Staff will work 8 hours per day between 9AM-6PM
- Lead Counselors for each camp will work M-F between 9AM-6PM, half day on Mondays
- Counselors should be available for the duration of the season
Job Duties:
- Plan, prepare and lead fun, hands-on, nature-based summer day camp sessions that promote high-quality, outdoor educational and recreational experiences for campers ages 8-13
- Oversee campers’ safety and well-being, while helping to facilitate their interactions with others and their surroundings. This is done by reinforcing principles of respect and responsibility
- Provide high-quality customer service and communication with parents/guardians. Build positive relationships with campers as well as parents/guardians
- Engage and encourage campers in learning and positive experiences
- Successfully implement group management while conducting camp. Identify and respond to camper behavioral concerns as needed
- Use materials and resources responsibly. Clean up camp space at the end of each day
- Lead Staff for each camp are responsible for on-site program management and parent communications
Qualifications:
- Must pass a background check
- Demonstrate experience and ability to work with youth
- Demonstrate enthusiasm and patience while performing daily tasks
- Current CPR and first aid training and/or certification, desired
- Specialized Skills in areas such as: lifeguard, archery, cooking, cycling, fishing, gardening, kayaking, theater
