Role Summary

Staff are expected to monitor indoor facility areas to ensure safety for scheduled park events, activities, and daily facility users. Communicate with citizens and develop positive relationships with park users by providing assistance and information. Provide facility support with check in, monitoring gym activities and supporting front desk inquiries as needed. Enforce City and MPRB regulations as appropriate. Communicate custodial needs to supervisor.

Job Duties

  • Ensure a safe environment for all park users by providing education about MPRB policies and procedures.
  • Act immediately to address inappropriate behaviors by contacting appropriate staff or other emergency personnel as necessary.
  • Oversee Park supplies on loan to park visitors and properly disinfect them on return.
  • Assist answering questions from the public regarding the facility and programs.
  • Monitor daily park indoor recreation actives within the facility for park visitors during scheduled times.
  • Monitor park activity and attendance; write incident reports and recommendation reports related to park use.
  • Provide and promote recreation opportunities on site and provide information on other park programs.
  • Distribute flyers to promote activities and park programs. Act as facility attendant and greeter for park events.

Minimum Qualifications

  • One year of experience involving extensive interaction with the public
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Communicate respectfully and effectively with a diverse community using courtesy, tact, and good judgment.
  • Explain and enforce rules of conduct or other applicable MPRB and City rules and policies.
  • Exercise authority appropriate to various circumstances.
  • Work independently with general supervision.
  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to perform assigned work independently and responsibly, as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and complete physical tasks (lift, carry, pull, etc.)

Background Check

We conduct a background check. Upon receiving a conditional offer of employment, the applicant will be asked to sign an informed consent allowing the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board to obtain their criminal history in connection with the positions sought. View the MPRB Background Check Policy [PDF]. The MPRB will be in compliance with Minnesota’s Department of Human Services fingerprinting requirements.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay rate is $16.45-20.00/hour depending on qualifications and experience. You are eligible to receive sick and safe time per the Minneapolis City Ordinance and Minnesota Earned Sick and Safe Time, and will earn one (1) hour of sick and safe leave for every thirty (30) hours worked. Public employees will be enrolled in statutorily required Public Employers Retirement Association (PERA) pension contributions if/when eligible.  This position is not eligible for other benefits.

Hours

Schedule will vary per week but will primarily be 11-40 hours per week in afternoons and evenings (Monday – Sunday)
