Role Summary

The Transportation & Mobility Intern will work in the Visitor Services Department of the Minneapolis Parks & Recreation Board. Their primary responsibility will be to gather data on shared micro-mobility usage and parking trends throughout the MPRB system. They will also report on the condition of MPRB assets and complete a transportation-related capstone project, such as a parking study or a transportation project proposal.

Required Skills & Abilities:

• Patrol MPRB property using shared mobility scooters and bicycles during peak hours to assess use of shared scooters and bicycles
• Monitor parking trends in MPRB lots
• Report shared mobility compliance issues on Smartsheet
• Use Field Maps to report condition of MPRB assets
• Make recommendations on placement of new shared mobility assets
• Interact with park visitors, providing directions, answering questions

Minimum Qualifications:

• Class level: junior or senior, needing internship credit for degree program. May consider other class level applicants
• Field of study: Must be currently enrolled in Park and Recreation Administration, Recreation Programming, Recreation Facility Management, Public Administration, Public Policy, Statistics, Urban Planning, Transportation Studies or a related field
• Must have a GPA in good academic standing (meets minimum GPA requirements, not on probation)

Preferred Qualifications

– Demonstrate exceptional verbal and written communication skills
– Experience with electric-assist bicycles and electric scooters
– Interest in transportation

Background Check

We conduct a background check. Upon receiving a conditional offer of employment, the applicant will be asked to sign an informed consent allowing the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board to obtain their criminal history in connection with the positions sought. View the MPRB Background Check Policy [PDF]. Compensation

$17 per hour.

Hours

16-32 hours per week, primarily morning and weekend shifts. Maximum internship length is 12 weeks.
