More than 20 miles of groomed cross-country ski trails vary from open sections with spectacular views of Downtown Minneapolis, to wooded trails overlooking scenic lakes.

Cross-Country Ski Lessons (Classic and Skate)

We offer cross-country ski lessons through the Loppet Foundation. Day pass is included in lesson.

Locations: Wirth Winter Recreation Area, Hiawatha and Columbia golf courses
When: Saturdays and Sundays
Cancellation Policy: Weather related session cancellations are non-refundable, but can be put toward a future lesson.  There are no refunds for personal cancellations.

Volunteer Ski Ambassadors

Our Ski Ambassadors check ski passes and patrol the cross-country ski trails throughout the Minneapolis parks.

Skijoring

Skijoring a growing winter sport in which a dog assists a cross-country skier. The skier and the dog each wear a harness, and are connected by a length of rope. Learn more about skijoring trails on the Loppet website.

Trail Information

The 3.5 kilometer trail is groomed for both classic and skate skiing. The trail is not lighted.

Trail Information

Hiawatha offers a gentle 4.1 kilometer classic and skate trail with a great view of the Minneapolis skyline.

Chain of Lakes

Trail Information

Generally very flat, the Chain of Lakes Trails are great for beginners or anyone wanting a leisurely ski through some of Minneapolis' most beautiful areas. Access the trail from anywhere around the lakes. Ski all the way to the Wirth Chalet in North Minneapolis with only two road crossings.

  • Kenilwirth Channel (2 km)
  • Lake of the Isles (3.5 km)
  • Bde Maka Ska (5 km)

There are no indoor facilities or ski passes available at the following locations.
