The Trailhead


The Trailhead is the hub for a host of year-round outdoor recreation opportunities at Wirth Park, provided Loppet Foundation in partnership with the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board.

Winter Recreation at Wirth Park has information on Cross-country skiing, snowboarding lessons, tubing, skijoring, off-road cycling and more.

  • Ski Passes are required for all ski trails in Wirth Park, for either one-day use or for a full season. Two types are available:
    • Access to all trails (including those with snowmaking equipment)
    • Access to natural-snow area only.
All-Access Ski Pass

Recommended for those interested in skiing on all MPRB ski trails, including on Theodore Wirth Park’s snowmaking trails. This pass is required to use all trails in the North Wirth Trails west of Theodore Wirth Parkway. This includes Hap Lutter Trails, Judy Lutter Loop, and Twin Lake Trail. This pass also allows access to all groomed trails in the MPRB trail system, both snowmaking and natural snow.

Natural Snow Ski Pass
  • Recommended for those interested in skiing in natural snow areas only, for instance, primarily on the Chain of Lakes or at Hiawatha or Columbia.

Access limited to Theodore Wirth Park’s natural snow trails ONLY:

  • South Wirth trails
  • North Wirth trails, except for the snowmaking/lighted areas (the Hap Lutter Snowmaking Loop, the Judy Lutter Loop, and the Twin Lake Trail)

Please note that there is no ability to ski on snowmaking or lit trails with this pass.
