Role Summary

Receive training in and assist with:

  • Preparing surfaces by washing, sanding, taping, puttying, scraping, stripping, scrubbing, blasting, spackling, and patching, using manual hand
    tools or power tools
  • Mixing and applying stains, primers, sealers, paints, varnishes, and other coatings, by hand and machine to surfaces including interior and exterior surfaces of buildings, furniture, bridges, barricades, curbs, parking lots, crosswalks, trails and other outdoor fixtures and facilities
  • Removing graffiti in efficient and timely manner
  • Producing bulletin boards, vinyl and painted signage
  • Pressure washing, caulking, and painting wading pools and similar facilities
  • Maintaining and cleaning tools and equipment used by the MPRB Paint Shop including paint sprayers, pressure washers, sanders, grinders, etc.
  • Performing related work as assigned.

Participate in employment and work readiness trainings as assigned by Youth Employment and Training staff.

Required Skills & Abilities

Perform climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, driving, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Frequent standing, bending, stooping and working on rough, uneven ground, as well as wet and slippery surfaces. Remain in a sitting or standing position for extended periods of time. Erect, ascend and descend ladders or scaffolding to access work areas and work at heights requiring approved fall protection equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Be 18-24 years of age
  • Have some job experience
  • Have reliable transportation to get to assigned worksite.

Background Check

We conduct a background check. Upon receiving a conditional offer of employment, the applicant will be asked to sign an informed consent allowing the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board to obtain their criminal history in connection with the positions sought. View the MPRB Background Check Policy [PDF]. The MPRB will be in compliance with Minnesota’s Department of Human Services fingerprinting requirements.

Compensation and Benefits

$18 per hour.

You are eligible to receive sick and safe time per the Minneapolis City Ordinance and Minnesota Earned Sick and Safe Time, and will earn one (1) hour of sick and safe leave for every thirty (30) hours worked. Public employees will be enrolled in statutorily required Public Employers Retirement Association (PERA) pension contributions if/when eligible.  This position is not eligible for other benefits.
