Construction at the site is about 15% complete. The new field house is taking shape at the bottom center, and on the right is a nearly complete underground cistern that will store rainwater for irrigation use.
Construction began last summer on a major project to expand and transform North Commons Park’s facilities. When complete, the park will serve as a new Northside hub for arts, recreation, athletics and community activities, with new waterpark, three-gym fieldhouse and renovated community center.

Work on site
- Footings and foundations for the field house are nearly 100 percent complete. Precast panels will be delivered to the site and installed in November.
- A new stormwater cistern southwest of the new building, which will gather and store rainwater for irrigation reuse, will be completed in November and backfilled.
What’s next
- Excavation for footings and foundations for the new west wing on the building has begun and will continue through November.
- Following the installation of precast panels for the field house, precast panels for the west wing will be delivered and installed before the end of the year.
Things to note
Precast concrete wall panels are often used in construction for their durability, ease of installation, and cost effectiveness.
North Commons Community Center remains open! School-year hours are Monday-Friday 3-8 pm, Saturday 12-5 pm, closed Sunday. Check out current and upcoming programs.
