Work on Phase 1 begins soon

Next week a contractor hired by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board will begin Phase 1 of the Minnehaha Parkway Trail Improvement project. Phase 1 includes widening the existing pedestrian asphalt trail starting just west of Bryant Avenue up to the Lyndale Avenue Bridge and improving the trail crossing at Lyndale Avenue.

This widened segment of trail will not open to bicyclists until Phase 2 is complete, expected 2018 or 2019. Work on Phase 1 will continue through the fall and wrap up next spring.

Phase 2 will replace the boardwalk along Minnehaha Creek east of Lyndale Avenue to Garfield Avenue. When Phase 2 is complete, the pathway will be wide enough to accommodate both bicyclists and pedestrians traveling underneath the Lyndale Avenue Bridge. The new boardwalk will also have a reduced slope that complies with standards set by the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Onsite signage will alert trail users of the upcoming work and help guide trail users around the work area. Please stay away from the work area while the project is under construction.
