Water Works Phase 2 Design Process

The MPRB is beginning a formal design process for Water Works Phase 2 during March 2026. To lead the design, the MPRB has engaged GGN, an internationally recognized design firm based on Seattle and Owámniyomni Okhódayapi’s consultant for the design to be implemented on its lands. The concept design process includes opportunities for input from neighbors and interested parties as well as engagement with representatives of Dakota communities. The design process is anticipated to take six months.

While the work currently references Water Works Phase 2, the MPRB anticipates renaming based on findings revealed during the design process.

The Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board is hosting the first public Open House on March 26th, 2026, at 5 pm to kick off the Water Works Phase 2 design process. Explorations will consider an evolution of the parkland, recognizing Owámniyomni Okhódayapi’s work on the lands surrounding the Upper St. Anthony lock.
