This July and August, join four different herbalists for a series of guided walks and other activities in the park. Discover the powers of everyday plants and learn about the land and its history.

Weed Medicine with Emily Pearson Ryan

Tuesday July 15, 6-8:00pm

Discover the power and versatility of medicinal plants that grow with wild abundance across the parks and the city.


The History of this Land and its Gifts with Tanaǧidaŋ To Wiŋ (Tara Perron)

Friday July 18, 10am-noon

During an hour-long walk, learn about some of the history of this land, its gifts and local medicines. Perron is a Dakóta and Anishnaabe mother, author, creator and plant medicine enthusiast will share stories about the land, its gifts.

Blue Vervain & Catnip with hal sansone

Saturday August 2, 2-3:30pm

Join herbalist Sansone for an exploration of the supportive and medicinal qualities of two nervous-system-supporting herbs that grow in North Mississippi Regional Park.

Plants with Purpose with Eva Nyrie Garrett

Saturday August 23, 10:30am-noon

An interactive experience with master herbalist and naturopath Garrett, exploring five powerful healing plants common in our local environment.


About the Walks with an Herbalist series

Stephanie LindquistThese events are part of Stephanie Lindquist’s artist residency at North Mississippi Regional Park.

MNPAiR, an Artist Residency in the Parks has Lindquist and 11 other artists engaging with parks, park systems or trails statewide – and local communities – in 2024 and 2025.

With the theme of “Creating Belonging,” this pilot program focuses on artists serving as partners to and ambassadors for parks, contributing not just art, but also ideas.

MNPAiR was launched through a partnership among the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Parks and Trails Division, the Metropolitan Council Metropolitan Regional Parks, the Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trails Commission and Forecast Public Art, an arts nonprofit based in St. Paul and working locally and nationally. It was made possible with funding from the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment.
