Traveling exhibit highlights Minneapolis Parks Community Engagement Policy Update

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is updating its Community Engagement Policy, and as part of that effort a traveling exhibit will make its way around the park system over the next month. The exhibit highlights MPRB community engagement practices past and present and helps explain proposed changes in the updated Community Engagement Policy.

Exhibit Schedule

Farview: Through October 16
Bottineau: October 17-22
Powderhorn: October 22-29 (Open House Oct. 22)
Van Cleve: October 29-November 5 (Open House Oct. 30)
MPRB Headquarters: November 5-9

It’s on display at Farview Recreation Center (621 N 29th Ave.) through Oct. 16, then it moves to Bottineau Recreation Center (2000 2nd St. NE) Oct. 17-22, Powderhorn Recreation Center (3400 15th Ave. S) Oct. 22-29, Van Cleve Recreation Center (901 15th Ave. SE) Oct. 29-Nov. 5 and MPRB Headquarters (2117 West River Road) Nov. 5-9.

Two open houses are also planned during the traveling exhibit:

  • Monday, Oct. 22, 4-6 pm at Powderhorn
  • Tuesday, Oct. 30, 4-6 pm at Van Cleve

Both open houses will feature a presentation beginning at 5 pm.

The public comment period closes December 1st and the updated policy will be presented at the Board of Commissioners meeting on November 28.

MPRB staff spent months reflecting on experiences, having conversations with park users, researching best practices around the nation, and learning from local and national thought leaders and community stakeholders to develop an update to the MPRB Community Engagement Policy. The draft update was published in September. View it by clicking the link below.

Draft Community Engagement Policy

The policy guides MPRB’s community engagement processes and practices, and public input will continue to shape how the MPRB uses feedback from the public to influence park projects, programming and care.

After reviewing the draft, please take a few minutes to fill out the online survey linked below. Survey responses will be accepted until Saturday, December 1, 2018.
