Southwest Parks Plan Update: Next meeting July 11; new subcommittee on fields/diamonds meets July 15
Posted on 2 July, 2019Next Community Advisory Committee meeting scheduled Thursday, July 11, 6-8 pm at Lynnhurst Recreation Center
New subcommittee formed to recommend field/diamond balance at four parks meets July 15, also at Lynnhurst
The process of developing, recommending and approving design concepts that will guide future development for every Minneapolis neighborhood park south of I-394 and west of I-35W [PDF] continues in July. These park designs have been developed as part of the long-term plan for the area’s parks, known as the Southwest Service Area Master Plan, SW Parks Plan for short.
After more than a year of engagement and discussion, the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) hosted three meetings in June to review, discuss and recommend a single revised concept for each park property. All existing parks have been sorted into two groups: Warrants Further Discussion and Has Consensus Towards Recommendation.
June 25 Meeting Recap
During the last CAC meeting June 25, Bryant Square and Painter parks moved into the Has Consensus Towards Recommendation group and a subcommittee was formed to discuss and recommend field/diamond balance in four parks: Armatage, Kenny, Linden Hills and Pershing.
Bike facilities were discussed and the CAC recommended retaining the bike skills trails in the revised Lyndale Farmstead plan, discussed the all-wheel park from Pershing, and asked for further exploration of a possible bike facility in Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Park.
