Park Improvements and Safety

With funding now available for an improvements project at Elliot Park, the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board (MPRB) is gathering feedback on what community members want to see on the park’s east side.

Due to increased safety concerns, we want to hear from community members regarding their experiences, as well as ideas, opportunities and priorities for improving safety at the park with this round of funding.

Project funds will be used for playground improvements as well as other improvements noted in the Elliot Park plan, approved in 2017. That plan, along with plans for all neighborhood parks in the area, is part of the Downtown Service Area Master Plan. It proposes retaining the athletic field, skatepark and basketball court on the park’s west side, with proposed improvements for the east side that include:

  • Additional gardens (native, pollinator plants)
  • Re-locating the playground and wading pool closer to the recreation
  • Developing the site of the current playground as an activity space
  • Recreation center addition

Currently, available funding is not sufficient to complete all of the proposed improvements; MPRB will use feedback to identify top priorities to construct.

Construction on this project is planned for 2025, with a possibility of some smaller scale aspects beginning in fall 2024.
