About the proposed design concept for Elliot Park
The concept was guided by community feedback, as well as recommendations from the park’s approved long-term plan, site analysis, and available funding.
- Brings activation, art, and amenities to the center of the park’s east side
- Ornamental fencing and landscaping along park edges
- Flexible performance area or lawn for events and informal events or games
- Patio/flexible sports plaza area near the recreation center
- Splash pad/patio to replace wading pool, near the park’s existing basketball courts
- New, more inclusive playground on south side of the park (closer to the recreation center and parking)
- Safety features have been incorporated throughout
- If the budget allows: additional possibilities include concrete paths that glow at night and community murals on the walls of the recreation center or basketball court
Next Steps
Following the public hearing, Park Board Commissioners will consider public input and vote on whether to approve the preferred concept plan. If approved, the improvements project moves into the final design and construction phases.
Thanks for your support as MPRB works to improve Minneapolis parks.
