On April 7, 2026, at 3:05 p.m., Park Police responded to a gunshot detection alert at 1801 James Ave. N. — North Commons Park. While responding, Park Police learned the shooting victim, a 17-year-old, had self-transported to North Memorial Medical Center. The injuries are not life-threatening. Park Police, along with members of MPD, responded to both the hospital and the shooting scene.
An initial investigation indicates the victim was shot while inside a vehicle traveling on Morgan Avenue North. Evidence also indicates the shooter or shooters were on, or adjacent to, Morgan Avenue North, as well. Currently, MPD is conducting the follow-up investigation.
Due to the proximity to North Commons Park, North Commons Recreation Center entered a lockdown as a precaution, in accordance with its safety plan.
