About the Project

Lake Hiawatha is one of the most scenic lakes in Minneapolis, but unfortunately it’s also known for excessive trash accumulation. Trash from surrounding neighborhoods is carried to the lake through a network of underground storm sewer pipes.

This pilot project aims to clean up Lake Hiawatha by capturing trash using a system of floating booms and underwater netting placed at the lake’s main storm sewer outfall. The project also includes deep-rooted native vegetation planted at the outfall delta.

You can help by picking up and disposing of trash you find in the park. Your neighbors and local fish and birds will appreciate it!
