Former clubhouse demolished after pipe break in 2015-16 winter; construction expected to begin this fall on new building to replace current temporary structure
The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board is moving forward with plans to build a new clubhouse and outdoor space at Meadowbrook Golf Course after the previous clubhouse suffered irreparable damage due to a pipe break during the winter of 2015-16. A temporary clubhouse has been used since the course reopened in August 2017 after extensive flooding.
Yesterday, May 4, 2021, the City of Hopkins Planning Commission and City Council completed its review of the project and approved it. The design team will now begin drafting construction documents, with construction anticipated to begin this fall. Construction is expected to be complete in 2022, with no anticipated interruption in golf play.
The clubhouse reconstruction project is divided into three zones. The first, or western zone, is where the new clubhouse will sit and includes the building and a patio adjacent to the practice green. The second zone is a large space for a food vendor with an open seating area. The third, or eastern zone, is an open lawn area where a large tent can be installed during tournaments or other gatherings.

At 1,500 square feet, the modest facility is clad in a mix of extensive glazing, metal panel and painted Hardie Board lap siding. The scale of the building will allow it to blend into the tree canopy to the west and provide open views to the northeast looking out over the golf course.
A new accessible path from the parking lot to the clubhouse will be created as part of this project, in addition to sustainable stormwater management solutions and landscape features around the building. Generous outdoor patios will offer visitors a place to relax before or after a round of golf. Food vendors will continue selling food and beverages at a dedicated patio space.
