After construction of the new trail, wall, and stairway completed in spring 2022, portions of the new trail began to crack later that fall. The MPRB is investigating these longitudinal cracks to determine the cause. In winter and spring 2023, the MPRB surveyed the new wall’s position compared to the parkway curb as well as the position and size of the cracking. Data was gathered during cold and warmer months to track potential movements of the wall, the rail, and widths and depths of the cracks. This investigation results indicated the wall and portions of the trail, up to the crack are moving with soil temperature changes. The MPRB will be temporarily filling the cracks with a flexible sealant for the time being.
Plans for modifying and fixing the trail are underway. Thank you for your patience as we determine the cause of the cracking and make repairs the trail.
