Mississippi East Bank Trail closes May 16Posted on 15 May, 2018
Trail will be closed between Boom Island and Sheridan Memorial Park to reinstall trail lighting
Mississippi East Bank Trail closes tomorrow, Wednesday, May 16, 2018, between Boom Island Park and Sheridan Memorial Park. The closure is necessary to reinstall trail lighting taken out last winter during the Hall’s Island restoration.
The five-block closure will return for a 1-2 days later this month to allow workers to repave a short section of trail currently covered in gravel.
Trail users may have noticed workers grading and planting on the restored Hall’s Island this spring. That work is scheduled to continue into June and it’s expected to take up to a year for the vegetation to establish on the island.
The gravel mainland beach is open, but do not go on the island. Hall’s Island will remain off-limits for people until Phase 2 is built, which includes two bridges to the island and an island boardwalk.
Visit the Hall’s Island project page for more information.
