Minnehaha Parkway Regional Trail Master Plan process continues with next CAC meeting April 24

Meeting will focus on guiding principles and vision; Big questions stemming from feedback on initial concepts will also be discussed

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board has received a lot of great feedback since it published initial proposed long-term plans for improving and managing Minnehaha Creek and the parkway, parkland and trails adjacent to it through Minneapolis earlier this winter.

The process continues with Community Advisory Committee (CAC) Meeting #5 scheduled Wednesday, April 24, 2019, 6-8 pm at McRae Recreation Center, 906 E 47th St.

Meeting Overview

The meeting will focus on overall guiding principles and vision for the project. The CAC will also discuss some big questions rising from feedback received on the initial concepts, which will help the design team as they create the next iteration of designs.

Most of the conversation will focus on the CAC, but there will be time for comment from the general public near the end of the meeting.

Online Survey

Some people are having technical issues with online survey links (some are directed to obsolete surveys; some receive an error message from Survey Monkey). We’re not sure why this is happening and the MPRB IT Department is looking into it.

In the meantime, if anyone has trouble with the online surveys, please email the Project Manager (aarvidson@minneapolisparks.org). All emailed comments are manually submitted so they are considered alongside survey responses, in-person comments, and other feedback received.

The online survey closes Friday, April 12, 2019, so please check out the concepts and submit your comments before then using the link below:

Minnehaha Creek Concepts

50th Street Bike Lanes

Many community members have expressed concern about bike lanes on 50th Street West that are shown on the concepts. The City of Minneapolis included these future bike lanes in its Bicycle Master Plan, which was approved by Minneapolis City Council in 2011. The MPRB is not proposing anything new—it is merely reflecting existing plans.

The City is in the process of developing the Minneapolis Transportation Action Plan, which will replace its current Ten-Year Transportation Action Plan—including the Bicycle Master Plan. The City is revisiting the bikeway network as part of this process.

If you have ideas or opinions about 50th Street West or other streets in the neighborhood, please attend a Transportation Action Plan Open House scheduled Tuesday, April 9, 2019, 6-8 pm at Richfield Lutheran Church, 8 W 60th St. The MPRB and Minneapolis Public Works are coordinating to ensure the Minnehaha Creek Master Plan and Minneapolis Transportation Action Plan align.
