The contractors will be working through September to install the plantings, grow the ballfield grass, complete the install of the play area equipment, and create a new bike skills area.
The bike skills course incorporates features once located on the park’s old tennis courts. They are being reinstalled in the park’s northeast corner, in the woods near the Luce Line Trail and new pedestrian/bicycle bridge to the Bassett Creek Valley Station on the Metro Transit Green Line. The new location allows cyclists to build their skills in a wooded setting similar to most Twin Cities mountain bike trails, with plenty of shade.
The skills features will be laid out along a natural surface trail in a loop with two entry/exit points. Riders will be able to choose whether to ride over some of the more challenging features, like a teeter-totter or 6-inch balance beam.
Please remember to stay clear of construction equipment and stay of newly seeded areas. The native prairie plantings will be fenced temporarily throughout their establishment. Most turf seeded areas will be ready for use later this fall.
