Construction on improvements to Cleveland Park begin this week

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is pleased to announce that construction begins next week on park improvements at Cleveland Park.

The project team developed a final concept plan for improvements based on community engagement and other factors. Improvements in the final plan include:

  • Full and half-size basketball courts
  • Small bankshot-style court
  • Multi-use field improvements
  • Outdoor fitness area
  • Updated picnic area
  • Lighting, path and security improvements

The project will also establish native planting areas with pollinators and shrubs, and filter stormwater from the site with planted filtration basins capturing stormwater runoff.  The landscaping improvements will be installed in spring 2026. A skate park, amphitheater and ninja course are planned for future phases once funding is secured for those elements.

These park improvements are a culmination of months of engagement in summer and fall of 2024 and guided by the long-range park plans (2019).

During Construction

Please stay out of fenced construction areas for your safety and that of others.

New Mural Coming Soon

The existing restroom building next to the wading pool will also be getting a new mural. With the help of Lucy Laney Craft Elementary School students, guided by Ms. Whitney from Lucy Laney School along with artists from Modern Day Me, the students will work over the next 6 weeks to gain skills in mural arts to develop a concept for the mural. They will then implement the mural with the professional artist team. We are so excited to see their creativity come to life in the park.

Thank you!

MPRB thanks everyone for their patience and support while we work to improve Minneapolis parks. Special thanks to community members and students, families and staff of Lucy Laney Craft Elementary School, Principal Lisa Pawelak, the Cleveland Neighborhood Association and others who participated in engagement events or provided input.
