Field area, playground and recreation center are open during construction.
In late July, contractors working for the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) began work on constructing improvements at Painter Park, including:
- Reconstructed tennis court with striping and portable nets for two pickleball courts
- Reconstructed basketball court and shoot-around hoop area
- New street-style skatepark with incorporated transition-style features
- New gathering spaces
- Native plantings
- Below-ground stormwater treatment
- Improved paths and pedestrian lighting in the project area
We anticipate that construction and landscaping will wrap up this fall; in spring 2024, turf seeding and establishment will take place, along with color coating and striping for the courts. MPRB will email additional updates as needed.
Public Impacts During Construction
- Construction work is expected to last four months, with completion anticipated this fall.
- The field area, playground, and rec center will remain open during construction.
- Please keep everyone safe and stay out of fenced construction areas.
