The current phase of improvements at Bassett’s Creek Park is concentrated on the park’s eastern end, in the Harrison neighborhood. Improvements include:
- Replacement of equipment at the play area with new slides, swings, towers, spinners and a sand play area, along with new native plantings
- Replacement of picnic facilities with modern, ADA-accessible tables and grill, along with a bicycle rack near the regional trail
- New picnic facilities near the Penn Avenue Bridge and ball fields
- New toilet enclosure between the play area and the lacrosse field
- Bee lawn to replace traditional turf grass around play and picnic areas
Public Impacts During Construction
- Construction begins in mid-July 2020 and will last through the summer.
- The regional trail and the rest of the park will remain accessible.
- New picnic facilities should open sooner than the other improvements – likely in August.
- Please give the construction contractors and MPRB staff plenty of space to work; they will be following COVID-19 protocols for construction.
