Construction at Franklin Steele Park begins this spring!

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is pleased to announce that construction on improvements for Franklin Steele Square Park will begin in late spring!

Some preparatory work will take place before then, including the removal of park benches for later reuse.

New features and other improvements coming to the park include:

  • Central youth soccer field with adjacent lawn for spectators
  • Ornamental fencing and landscaping along Portland Avenue
  • Full basketball court near the pavilion
  • Playground with a challenge course and other new equipment
  • Looped paths connecting new park entrance with features and amenities
  • View the full concept plan [PDF]

The park’s splash pad will not open this summer, due to construction.

We’ll share the official construction start date once it is confirmed, along with information on nearby parks, playgrounds and wading pools community members can use.

Thanks for your support while we work to improve Minneapolis parks!
