Community update on the project to transform North Commons Park facilities

At their April 26 meeting, Commissioners for MPRB reviewed a Study Report and several options for moving forward on the project to transform North Commons Park into a Northside hub for arts, recreation, athletics and a host of community activities.

The project is at a crucial milestone due to construction cost estimates, inflation, and other cost increases. The anticipated project budget was $20-24 million, but initial cost estimates were double that: over $49 million. Although MPRB currently has secured $12 million in public funds. However, further public funding is uncertain.

The project options presented to Commissioners all have both benefits and risks in terms of their size, features, budget, funding, and schedule. As the Board of Commissioners weighs the options to guide the project’s next steps, MPRB staff expect to have more information in the weeks to come.
