Check out updated designs outlining the future of parks and trails along Minnehaha Creek

Preferred concept for each trail segment now available for review and comment online

Discuss concepts at Community Advisory Committee or Lynnhurst Subcommittee meetings in June

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) has received a lot of great feedback since it published initial proposed long-term plans for improving and managing Minnehaha Creek and the parkway, parkland and trails adjacent to it through Minneapolis last winter.

Today, Thursday, May 30, 2019, the MPRB published the next round of designs for the Minnehaha Parkway Regional Trail Master Plan. Called “preferred concepts,” these drawings are based on extensive community engagement and the in-depth discussions that occurred at public meetings held to review the first round of drawings.

Each concept contains ideas relating to:

  • Trail and parkway realignment
  • Stormwater infrastructure and potential creek restoration areas
  • Natural resource management areas
  • Creek access points
  • Recreational amenities
  • Precedent (example) images to demonstrate ideas

Follow the links below to review and provide feedback online.

In addition to the online survey, trail users can attend a public meeting to discuss the concepts. The Community Advisory Committee (CAC) and any interested park users will discuss the concepts and suggest revisions at a series of CAC meetings and two Lynnhurst Subcommittee Meetings. These meetings will conclude when the CAC makes recommendations on the final preferred concepts. See the full schedule below for details.

This project does not include areas within Nokomis-Hiawatha Regional Park, which has its own Master Plan that was approved by MPRB Commissioners in March 2015: Nokomis-Hiawatha Regional Park Master Plan

Southwest Parks Plan

If you’re interested in the Minnehaha Creek Master Plan, you may also be interested in the Southwest Service Area Master Plan (called Southwest Parks Plan for short). The Southwest Parks Plan will create a cohesive set of new, long-term plans for all Minneapolis neighborhood park properties south of I-394 and west of I-35W – more than 40 properties in total.

Today the MPRB also published preferred concepts for the Southwest Parks Plan. Follow the link below for more information on that project.
