Addressing environmental damage in remote park areas

MPRB is addressing severe erosion, compacted soil and other environmental damage from foot traffic on the slope west of Twin Lake in the northwest part of Theodore Wirth Park. This park area does not have established trails and is not designed for active use, nor is it part of the 400-plus acres of parkland that MPRB manages as natural areas.

In summer 2021, MPRB staff will cut back invasive plants from portions of the slope to better assess site conditions and develop a long-term plan. This work will also create sightlines and access to the lakeshore for MPRB staff and first responders.
