Construction & Timeline Update (Fall 2024)

Over the summer, Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) staff were able to complete needed repairs to the wading pool plumbing and equipment atĀ Bottineau Field Park.

Staff have also been working to complete additional environmental testing. This process involves close coordination with City of Minneapolis and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), due to reviews and approvals that are required to move forward with the park improvements project.

Unfortunately, this process has taken longer than was originally anticipated. However, it will ensure that the upcoming park improvements follow all necessary regulations and the park remains safe for both park users and the environment.

In addition, we experienced delays throughout spring and summer on construction of the park’s splash pad and play areas. Due to rainy conditions, outdoor projects across the region were also delayed: A situation that resulted in an overall shortage of contractors available in this area for this type of construction work.

New construction timeline

Because of these delays, MPRB has shifted the timing for the construction phase of Bottineau Field Park improvements to the spring of 2025.

The current playground equipment will remain in place until shortly before construction begins, to minimize disruption and allow continued play at the park.

We apologize for these unavoidable delays and understand that the change in the project timeline is disappointing.

We pledge to complete construction as soon as possible next season. Please know the results of this project will be well worth the wait!

MPRB thanks everyone for their patience and support while we work to improve Minneapolis parks.
