On March 1, 2023, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) approved the concept plan for Riverside Park which made detailed recommendations for the design and layout of a new play area, wading pool area, basketball courts, sand volleyball courts, picnic area and shelter, a labyrinth, community gardens, hammocking areas, and native prairie restorations.
The adopted concept plan can be found here
Since March, the design team has been refining the concept plan into a set of construction documents that will be used to seek bids from contractors this coming winter. Construction is tentatively scheduled for spring 2024 and will last through the year. Not all elements noted above are able to be constructed with this project given the limited budget for construction. Elements included in the construction documents to be built in 2024 include new play area equipment, new wading pool and shaded patio space, stormwater BMPs like raingardens and native plantings, two sand volleyball courts, a picnic area and shelter structure, hammocking areas, and invasive vegetation clearing along the bluff down to Annie Young Meadow.
Please stay tuned for construction updates in December or January.
