History
Market Square is a 50,000-square-foot public market plaza and gathering space serving a 6.3‐acre redevelopment of a site formerly owned by Minneapolis Public Schools. The project is located on the southwest quadrant of the Lake Street and Hiawatha Avenue intersection, next to the Metro Transit Blue Line Lake Street Station.
The plaza is set up to host the Midtown Farmers Market. It also features public art created by Juxtaposition Arts.
Acquisition and Development: The Hennepin County Housing and Redevelopment Authority acquired the property in August 2015 and oversaw the mixed-use and transit‐oriented redevelopment of the property. The HRA is conveying Market Square to the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board to satisfy the development’s requirements under the Parkland Dedication Ordinance.
