Above the Falls Regional Park
East and West banks of the Mississippi River between Plymouth Avenue North & Camden Bridges
Current Phase: Schematic Design
Construction: May 2016
Pavement in place and generally open for public use; striping, fencing and other minor modifications still remain before new mile-long riverfront trail is fully complete
A number of issues have delayed the start of construction on the new Mississippi East Bank Trail. Most notably, contraction execution took longer than anticipated and several upcoming major events are using the Scherer site for parking, which would interfere with construction.
The trail is still scheduled to be complete by the end of October. The pavement will be in place in early fall, followed by landscaping improvements and lighting installation.
Critical two-way, off-street trail within Above the Falls Regional Park will open this fall

New bicycle and pedestrian trails will be constructed in northeast Minneapolis along the east bank of the Mississippi River from the Plymouth Avenue Bridge to Marshall Street NE at the BNSF railroad bridge. Planning will begin in September 2014, with construction in 2016.
The trails will provide one segment in the series of trail loops envisioned by RiverFIRST linking the east and west banks of Mississippi and providing access to the river for adjacent neighborhoods. The trail(s) will cross the Scherer site, Graco property, and Sheridan Memorial Park.
The MPRB was awarded $1.0 million in federal funding through the Transportation, Community and System Preservation program in 2012 for .75 miles of new off-street trails along the east bank of the Mississippi in the Above the Falls (ATF) Regional Park. Metropolitan Council Regional Park Operations and Maintenance Funds from Lottery in Lieu Proceeds will provide the required local construction match and project planning costs.
The scope of the project includes "trail design and construction, including lighting, signage, wayfinding, water quality improvements, and landscape appropriate to this international migratory bird flyway, Minnesota National River Recreation Area and state Mississippi River Critical Area." The trails will be designed to meet current MPRB and federal standards.
