Posted on 15 July, 2025Due to extreme heat, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is closing the following non-air-conditioned recreation centers at 2 pm today, July 15.
- 40th Street Recreation Center (formerly Sibley)
- Hiawatha School Recreation Center
- Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center
- Creekview Recreation Center
- Morris Recreation Center
- Keewaydin Recreation Center
UPDATE, 2:15 pm: The following recreation centers exceed OSHA standards for indoor ventilation and temperature and will close at 4 pm.
- Armatage Recreation Center
- Corcoran Recreation Center
- Pearl Recreation Center
- Peavey Recreation Center
- Waite Recreation Center
UPDATE, 4:45 pm: The following recreation centers exceed OSHA standards for indoor ventilation and temperature and will close at 6 pm.
Closures are required when building conditions exceed OSHA standards for indoor ventilation and temperature.
All classes at these locations will be canceled, with signs posted on the doors and participants notified.
Wading pools and exterior restrooms at recreation centers that have them remain open until 9 pm.
MPRB recreation centers with air conditioning remain open for regular hours.
Heat Safety Tips
Stay Hydrated – Drink more water than usual and don’t wait until you are thirsty. Avoid alcohol, caffeinated beverages, and liquids containing high amounts of sugar.
Stay Informed – Check local news for extreme heat alerts and forecast.
Signs of Heat Illness – Seek medical care immediately if you or someone you know experiences symptoms of heat illness:
- Heat exhaustion symptoms include heavy sweating, weakness, weak pulse, fainting, vomiting, and cool, pale, clammy skin.
- Heat stroke symptoms include body temperature of 103 degrees Fahrenheit or higher, rapid and strong pulse, possible unconsciousness, and hot, dry skin.
