Cedar Lake Parkway closes to vehicle traffic for several months beginning July 14

Closure necessary for construction related to the Met Council's Green Line Extension project

Cedar Lake Parkway closes to through traffic on Monday, July 14, 2025. The hard closure is located next to Cedar South Beach. It’s expected to last into the fall. Trails will remain open through the area.

The closure is necessary for construction related to the Met Council’s Green Line Extension project. Follow posted detours, slow down, and stay away from areas where construction is taking place.

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board appreciates the public’s patience during construction. More information shared by Met Council last week is pasted below:

Cedar Lake Parkway to close beginning July 14

A closure of Cedar Lake Parkway to vehicle traffic from just east of Burnham Road across the rail corridor to Xerxes Avenue South is anticipated to begin on July 14 once Burnham Road reopens. The purpose of this closure is to construct the final roadway, sidewalk, and trail across the freight rail corridor. This is anticipated to be the last full closure of Cedar Lake Parkway for Green Line Extension construction. The roadway will be closed into fall. Non-motorized access across the rail corridor will be maintained.

The Burnham Road Bridge and Lake of the Isles Parkway will remain in a two-way condition for local access for the duration of this closure. Detour maps will be available before the closure goes into effect.
