Metropolitan Council responding to wastewater spill near Cedar Lake

The Metropolitan Council, operator of the regional wastewater collection and treatment system, responded Friday morning, March 28, to a wastewater spill in Minneapolis, at the intersection of 28th Street W. and Dean Court. Crews were able to stop the spill flow. Wastewater reached the west side of Cedar Lake South Beach through the storm water system. The spill was caused by the theft of infrastructure at the spill site.

Crews are onsite to contain the spill area and have begun cleanup efforts. Cleanup and repair efforts will be completed on Friday, March 28. Water quality crews are mobilizing to assess potentially impacted waterbodies. Signs warning the public “Do Not Enter/ Sewage Spill” will be placed around affected areas, including three public beaches. They will remain in place until the area is verified to be safe. Sewer service will not be interrupted.
