Natural resources staff from the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) plan to burn brush piles at various locations in the Minneapolis park system, starting Friday, February 14 through Tuesday, April 1.
The initial burn is planned at Quaking Bog at Theodore Wirth Regional Park for tomorrow, February 14 and burns will continue through February and March at up to nine other regional park locations. Dates for the additional burns are dependent on snow cover and weather conditions at each site, and will occur between 8am and 3pm.
About brush pile burns
Staff from MPRB’s Environmental Stewardship division obtain all required permits to conduct brush pile burns. MPRB notifies police and fire departments at the City of Minneapolis and City of Golden Valley, as well as MPRB’s customer service and Park Police departments. These notifications are sent for every burn, both prior to the burn and when it’s complete.
MPRB manages natural areas in the Minneapolis park system to maintain healthy ecosystems and habitat for native plants and wildlife. Burning brush piles is an efficient and effective way to manage invasive plant material, diseased tree debris and debris from other natural resources management work.
