Update on spring rainfall and turf conditions in parks

Drought has been eliminated during one of the wettest recent springs in Minneapolis.  The downside of all that seasonal rainfall: Consistently wet, muddy conditions in many park areas have prevented timely mowing, which in turn has resulted in overgrown turf. In addition, the rapid rate of growth, plus limited staffing, have made it difficult for MPRB to keep up with its mowing service levels across the park system.

MPRB recognizes that current conditions in some areas are not ideal. We have been adjusting schedules to prioritize mowing in dry conditions, and hiring and training additional staff. (Please share: Park maintenance jobs are still available!)

We are and will be making every effort to get all 4,660 acres of turf in the park system mowed and in acceptable conditions in the coming days and weeks.

Thank you for your patience as we work to maintain Minneapolis parks.
