The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) has temporarily closed Bde Maka Ska 32nd Street Beach on Tuesday, June 4, because its routine monitoring for lake water quality found that E. coli bacteria levels exceeded state-specified guidelines.
This closure is likely due to the weekend’s rain and E. coli being washed into the lake from the landscape.
There are no reports of any illness from swimmers at either beach; however, the MPRB proactively closes beaches if bacteria levels exceed state guidelines. When the levels are within state guidelines, the beaches will re-open.
All other MPRB beaches are open and have acceptable bacteria levels.
