Public hearing on naming Northeast riverfront trail section “Rick Recker Trail” scheduled June 7

Trail that opened in 2016 along Northeast Minneapolis riverfront proposed to be named after pillar in Minneapolis running community

A public hearing on a proposal to name a section of trail along the Northeast Minneapolis riverfront to “Rick Recker Trail” is scheduled Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at 5:45 pm in the Board Room at Mary Merrill Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) Headquarters, 2117 West River Road.

This section of trail opened in fall 2016. It travels along the Mississippi River between 8th Avenue NE and the 1600 block of Marshall Street NE. Rick Recker was a lifelong resident of Minneapolis who ran on trails throughout the city nearly every day from the early 1960s all the way up to early 2022.

“Rick was a pillar of the Minneapolis running community,” said MPRB President Meg Forney.
